FREE CONCERTS - A Little Night Music Series

Music performances in the Plaza and Colonial Quarter during Romanza Festivale of the Arts

Mama Blue will perform Friday, May 12 from 7-9 p.m. in the Plaza de la Constitucion as the final A Little Night Music concerts during Romanza Festivale of the Arts.

St. Augustine, FL - A variety of regional bands will be on stage May 5-12 during A Little Night Music - concerts held on the gazebo stage in the Plaza de la Constitucion and on the Colonial Oak Stage in the Colonial Quarter, both venues located in downtown St. Augustine. 

These FREE live music celebrations are held during the   Romanza Festivale of the Arts, a celebration of art and music in America's Most Romantic City, features 100 events and exhibits by dozens of organizations from May 5 (Cinco de Mayo) through May 14.

Concert-goers are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating for the Plaza events. See the SCHEDULE below for A Little Night Music:

Luis Mario Peral and Band

Festivale Opening Cinco de Mayo Concerts: Luis Mario Peral and The Rumba Kings
Friday, May 5 5:30 pm -  7:00 pm

Luis Mario Peral & his Rumba Kings will bring their Latin-flavored music to the Plaza as Festivale opens on the night of Cinco de Mayo.  Luis Mario, who is a singer and composer from Cuba, and his 5 band members have been playing in St. Augustine for the past 20 years, covering many city events and area restaurants.  Peral's Latin Jazz Band consists of very talented musicians who perform Rumba, Flamenco, Salsa, and Mambo.  Luis Mario will have you dancing to his music which also includes a twist of English/Spanish rhythms.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with the Caribbean Salsa Band!  The Caribbean Band has been performing in the Orlando area for more than ten years.  Members have performed for the best salsa players in the world including  Tito Nieves, Andy Montanez, Tito Rojas, Ismael Miranda, Tony Vega just to name a few.

Catch the Groove offers the sounds of contemporary jazz with R&B, Blues and Latin influences.  Catch the Groove is building its reputation in the Jacksonville area and beyond and genre fans seeking fresh sounds are gravitating towards the group's uniquely democratic structure where each musician has an alternating lead voice.  Two instruments are often paired at the same time (sax/trumpet, guitar/sax, guitar/trumpet,sax/keyboard etc.) to create richly textured lead melodies and harmony lines.

The Lincolnville Brass Band is the brainchild of jazz musician and recording artist, Doug Carn.  Doug, whose family roots go back five generations in St. Augustine's Lincolnville Community, wanted to organize a band that would capture the spirit of the parades that were held on Bridge, Washington and Central Streets when he was a child in the 50s and early 60s.  The Lincolnville Brass Band fulfills his dream.

The Jax English Salsa Band

The Jacksonville English Salsa Band was formed five years ago and is the only Latin Salsa Band in the Jacksonville area that plays LIVE Latin music.  They perform all types of Latin dance styles including the cha cha, merengue, boogaloo, mambo, rhumba, bachata and salsa.  The Salsa Band plays in all types of venues from clubs to weddings and Romanza is pleased to present them in a return engagement!
 
Matanzas Tap

A Little Night Music: Matanzas Tap
Thursday, May 11 @ 6:30 pm -  7:00 pm
The Colonial Quarter ,   37 St. George Street 

As part of "A Little Night Music", a selection of new choreography and favorites from the repertory will be danced.  A group of spunky senior citizens, Matanzas Tap is directed by Judy Woodruff and based at the St. Johns County Council on Aging.  Members of the group range from beginners to seasoned professionals in retirement, all dancing for fun and exercise, but with a real commitment to skill attainment and artistry. 

Dennis Fermin

Dennis Fermin's music celebrates passion and romance from Spain to the Caribbean Islands.  He grew up in a musical family whose roots came from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Spain and joined with them playing percussion instruments as a very small child.  After sojourns in New York, California and Arizona, he moved to Georgia where Fermin Spanish Guitar was born with the release of his first CD, "Amor y Passion" in 2009.  Dennis and his family moved to St. Augustine in 2011

Enjoy an incredible evening of music which begins with the CRS Band in the Gazebo at 5:30 pm!  Bill Sabo, Elizabeth Roth and Jim Carpenter have been making music together as part of the faculty of the Florida School of the Deaf and Blind and are well known for their brand of singable and danceable music in St. Augustine and surrounding venues.  

A Little Night Music: Mama Blue and Friends
Friday, May 12 @ 7:00 pm -  9:00 pm

Mama Blue, the Sultry Sister of Soul, will be performing tonight with her incredible band and backup singers.  With her signature flower in her hair, Mama Blue (Sarah Sanders) exudes personal warmth and a classy style.  Her performances at the St. Cyprian's Jazz Services have  brought down the packed house and people have been standing in the aisles.  Mama Blue is a graduate of the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts and is widely known along the First Coast for her song stylings.


ROMANZA FESTIVALE OF THE ARTS

Join us in Saint Augustine from May 5-14 for a celebration of art and music in America's Most Romantic City featuring 100 events and exhibits by dozens of organizations.  Daily events include music and dance performances, concerts, art shows, dramatic productions and much more at locations throughout the city.  

Many events are free and admission is required for the others. Getting around town to enjoy the events during the 10-day Romanza Festivale in St. Augustine should be a breeze.
